I started 2020 with what I assume was the flu, so this past week was my first back at work this year. Having spent over a week barely able to take short walks with Moya, the weather stopped us from finally going on longer walks. We’re planning a hiking trip tomorrow, so long as the forecast doesn’t change, but today it’s been rainy and just all around shitty outside.
Since my brain is still in flu mode, and therefore not willing to do anything even remotely creative, writing-wise, I decided to set up a little activation game for Moya instead. It’s a basic DIY game I found only, where you place treats in a muffin tin, and then place balls on top to cover the treats. Now, I only had three balls, and they are the small kind, cause Moya is a small dog. So I found some other stuff to cover the remaining three holes.
She spent a few minutes on it, thinking hard on how to get the treats under the balls. Because apparently just picking them up never occurred to her. But I’ve noticed that she uses her paws more than her mouth when doing these kinds of games, so it shouldn’t have come as a big surprise.
She did eventually get all the treats though, having used her paws to move the balls around in the tin, and then licking up the treats. It was a fun game for her, but next time I’ll get her yoga mat out so it doesn’t slide around so much. She would have preferred about ten times more treats of course. She is highly food motivated, and always hungry, which makes training easy.
For now, she is sleeping on the couch next to me, and I actually picked up the computer to write down some notes for my Remnants edit. Unfortunately, my brain is still in flu-mode, so the second my fingers touched the keyboard it forgot everything. So I wrote about Moya instead.
Hopefully the hiking trip tomorrow will hit the restart button in my head, and I’ll be able to be more creative in the coming week. They usually help a lot with that, so fingers crossed everyone!
